Is Selling Your Home Over The Holidays a Good Idea?
For obvious reasons, Christmas isn’t considered to be the best time to sell a home. However, it’s also not the worst time to sell a home either. While housing sales are slower between November and January, there are some good reasons to sell your home during this time.
Buyers are more serious. People don’t tend to shop for a home in freezing cold temperatures unless they have to. It’s likely a buyer has a deadline they need to purchase a home by whether it’s due to a relocation, changing personal circumstances, or tax purposes.
Buyers have time to decide. With less buyers in the market, those shopping for a home likely have a little more time to make a well thought out decision before saying yes to a purchase. Also, time off from work and sports over the holidays can allow buyers more time to look at homes.
Less competition among sellers. Due to the busyness of the holiday season and slower market activity, some sellers choose to take their home off the market. With lower housing inventory, your home has a better chance of standing out among the competition.
Cozy Christmas staging. As your home is decorated for the holidays, it’s likely to give buyers an extra warm and inviting feel. This brings a sense of new beginnings that make a house feel like a home.
